3. Jets head coaching candidates: Panthers OC Joe Brady

When the Jets hired Gase in 2019 owner Christopher Johnson made the laughable claim that Gase was coaching offensive football to where it was going. If Johnson actually wants to pick a candidate who is doing that the best thing to do would be to hire Brady away from the Panthers.

The 31-year old Brady got his big break as an offensive assistant under Sean Payton with the Saints before taking over as LSU’s passing game coordinator in 2019. Brady then helped mold Joe Burrow, who had put up pedestrian stats in his college career, into a championship-winning star quarterback who was taken with the first overall pick by the Cincinnati Bengals in April.

That performance caught the eye of Rhule, who hired Brady to be his offensive coordinator with the Panthers this season. Carolina hasn’t had Christian McCaffrey for most of the season but Brady has done an excellent job putting together a dangerous offense with Teddy Bridgewater, Mike Davis and a talented collection of pass catchers that includes former Jet Robby Anderson.

The Jets could go after Brady with the hopes that he would be their version of Sean McVay, a previously unheralded offensive assistant who emerges as one of the brightest minds in football. That would be a refreshing change for New York’s fans who have been stuck watching unimaginative offensive football for the better part of a decade.
