Washington Football Team. 1. 58. NFC. East. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

As obvious as this answer may seem, this makes complete sense. While Ron Rivera has done a simply astonishing job of turning Washington around despite the extremely chaotic offseason, cancer treatments, and dismissal of former first-round pick Dwayne Haskins, quarterback has undoubtedly been a weak spot. In addition to Haskins, Kyle Allen, Alex Smith, and Taylor Heinicke have all taken snaps under center. With Allen and Heinicke both looking more like backups than starters and Smith on the back nine of his career, Washington needs to upgrade under center.

Their late-season run likely means Washington will not be in a position to draft a quarterback high in the 2021 NFL Draft. If Rivera wants to add a veteran option at quarterback instead of rolling the developmental dice for the second time in as many years, the former Panthers head coach could bring back Newton, whom he coached for Cam’s entire career before his 2019 dismissal in Carolina.

Rivera arrived in Carolina in 2011, and he completely changed the entire composition of the roster in order to build around Newton and establish a good relationship with him. When Carolina got rid of Cam as the Matt Rhule era began, there was an expectation that Washington would reach out to him. After missing on him in 2020, Rivera could reunite with Cam on a potentially dangerous 2021 team in DC.
