6-10. Previous: . San Francisco 49ers. 21. team. 42.

Losers of three times as many games as they did a year ago, the Niners hosted the division-champion Seahawks at Arizona. Kyle Shanahan’s club appeared primed to pull off the upset and owned a 16-6 advantage with less than 15 minutes to play. But the Seahawks responded with 20 straight points to take control and drop the 49ers’ home record (the last 3 games at Arizona) to 1-7. And the club finished last this year after a Super Bowl appearance.

. 6-10. Previous: . Dallas Cowboys. 20. team. 123

Winners of three consecutive games, the Cowboys could still win the NFC East with a win over the Giants and a little help on Sunday night. But all of that went out the window as Mike McCarthy’s club trailed 20-6 in the second quarter, narrowed the gap to one point early in the fourth quarter but could never catch up. Dallas could not protect quarterback Andy Dalton, who was sacked six times and also served up a costly end zone interception.

47. . 7-9. Previous: . New England Patriots. 19. team

Losers of three straight games by a combined 84-24 score, the disappointing Patriots hosted the revitalized New York Jets. And Bill Belichick’s club scored more points on Sunday than they had in their previous three contests. Cam Newton threw for 242 yards and three scores and also caught a 19-yard TD pass from wide receiver Jakobi Meyers. The Pats rushed for 166 yards, the vast majority of that coming from Newton (79) and Sony Michel (76).
