Murray has shown flashes in his first two years with the Cardinals
When Kyler Murray was taken No. 1 overall by the Arizona Cardinals in 2019, people were skeptical that a one-year starter at Oklahoma would work out. Murray was a former top-10 pick by the Oakland Athletics in the MLB Amateur Draft, and many thought a big-league career for him was inevitable. But as it turns out, Murray has been one heck of a quarterback for Arizona thus far.
The Cardinals have gotten better every year Murray has starred in the Valley of the Sun. While Arizona faded down the stretch, it is pretty clear that he is indeed a franchise quarterback, albeit one on the shorter side of things. What does need to happen is for Murray to lead his Cardinals into the NFC playoffs in his third year in the league. Otherwise, he will receive some criticism.
Mayfield had a strong rookie season, sophomore slump, but led the Browns to the playoffs in his third season
Three years in and we can feel pretty good about Baker Mayfield being taken No. 1 overall by the Cleveland Browns in the 2018 NFL Draft. The 2017 Heisman winner out of Oklahoma was sensational in college and had an excellent rookie season with the Browns in 2018. However, a sophomore slump in 2019 had Mayfield on the precipice of being a first-round bust in Cleveland.
With a new head coach in Kevin Stefanski in 2020, Mayfield helped do something no Browns quarterback had done in 18 years by leading the franchise to the postseason. Even if Cleveland does not beat the Pittsburgh Steelers in back-to-back weeks to advance to the divisional round, Mayfield has for the time being been worth the lofty draft selection by the Browns organization.
