Wilson has started almost every game of his Chiefs career since coming over from Dallas before the 2019 season. He originally arrived in Kansas City as a middle linebacker before kicking outside for the 2020 campaign.

The results of moving Wilson outside haven’t been good. He lacks the speed or explosive quickness required to make big plays out on the edge. Wilson has notched 73 total tackles this season, but he doesn’t do anything other than make the ordinary plays required of his position.

This may be Wilson’s last chance to land a significant, long-term contract in free agency. It’s hard to envision a scenario where the Chiefs offer him that kind of deal. They might be willing to bring him back on a cheap one-year deal, but he should find another team or two interested in offering him more money and a bigger role.

Kansas City should look to continue their linebacking corps makeover by drafting a more explosive athlete to fill Wilson’s role in 2021. The franchise hit on Willie Gay last season in Round 2. If they could find another hidden given in the middle rounds this season it could do a lot to boost their defensive quality.
