Seattle Seahawks. player. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. 36. RB. Chris Carson. 2

Carson’s inclusion on this list will surprise plenty of Seahawks fans. After all, he led the team in rushing this season with Rashaad Penny sidelined for most of the year. That allowed Carson to rack up 681 yards on 141 carries.

His status as the teams No. 1 running back this season is going to embolden him to ask for a big contract in free agency. The Seahawks aren’t in a position to give a relatively ordinary rusher a lucrative contract in free agency.

Instead, Seattle will gamble on Penny returning to full health in 2021. There’s also a chance Carlos Hyde could come back for one more tour of duty. Fourth-round selection DeeJay Dallas also has fans inside the organization.

The only legitimate chance Carson has to return is if his market doesn’t heat up to the degree that he and his representatives hope. That could force him to go back to Seattle on a modest, short-term deal that would give him another chance to hit free agency in his prime.

The odds favor some other team giving Carson a big deal with the expectation that he can blossom into an All-Pro running back. The Seahawks don’t have that type of confidence in him. That’s why he’s lined up to be a high-profile departure this offseason.
