3 critical mistakes Frank Reich made to cost Colts in playoff loss to Bills
By Mark Powell
1. Two-point conversion decision
After scoring to get within one score late in the game, Reich opted to go for two in hopes of limiting the Colts then-deficit to six points. On the surface, it makes some sense for a team that’s already up against the odds on the road in a tough environment. Yet, considering how many points Reich left on the board to begin with, taking yet another chance and missing was demoralizing for the Colts.
Two scores, combined with two extra points, would have been enough to tie the game. This math lesson is not brought to you by the Indianapolis Colts. Yet, Reich wanted to be able to win the game with two touchdowns, something that might’ve worked in the favor if they hadn’t run a brutal play call in that attempt. As talented as Taylor is, a simple run up the middle was not going to get the job done in such a crucial moment.
Thus, a bad day for Reich only got worse. With at least 10 points left on the board, Colts fans have an obvious scapegoat should they want one.
