The Seattle Seahawks managed to lose to a one-thumbed Jared Goff in the Wild Card round.

The Seattle Seahawks thought they had it easy in the Wild Card round. They were facing a Los Angeles Rams team that was starting former AAF passing leader John Wolford instead of Jared Goff, who was dealing with a broken thumb on his throwing hand. Surely, this would be an easy win for the Seahawks.

It was not.

The one-thumbed Goff and a dominant defensive performance led the Rams to a 30-20 win over the Seahawks. Seattle fans were not happy as they dealt with yet another early exit from the playoffs.

Another early exit for the Seahawks

Things appeared to be going in Seattle’s favor after the Rams had to lean upon a less than 100-percent Goff after Wolford left the game in an ambulance due to a neck injury suffered in the first quarter. Things continued to look brighter for Seattle after Rams superstar defensive tackle left the game with a rib injury while bringing down quarterback Russell Wilson. Yet, they couldn’t.

The Rams defense was just too much for Seattle’s offense to overcome and Seattle’s defense played the role of a turnstile. Goff was far from perfect, as he managed to complete 9-of-19 passes for 155 yards and one touchdown, all with a bad thumb. As for Seattle’s offense of Wilson, Chris Carson, DK Metcalf and Tyler Lockett only mustered 278 yards of total offense.

It’s another offseason where the Seahawks will have to go back to the drawing board. They have approximately $17 million in cap space entering next season, but they’ll be without first-round draft picks in 2021 and 2022 after sending them to the New York Jets in the Jamal Adams trade.

The Seahawks thought they had the squad necessary to make a deep playoff run. They thought wrong.
