Scouting Report. QB. Pittsburgh Steelers. Ben Roethlisberger. Pick Analysis. 2.. player. 55

We wanted to believe that Ben Roethlisberger would succeeded with the Steelers this season, we really did. This was a team that was a quarterback away from clinching a playoff berth last season. But, coming off elbow surgery, the time is nigh for “Big Ben.”

Throughout the season, it became evident that the procedure on his throwing elbow as well as his advanced age, has caught up to Roethlisberger. The zip on his throws is no longer present, making him susceptible to turnovers on deep throws. To show just how bad Roethlisberger’s arm strength has depleted, he’s only averaged 6.3 yards per throw attempt, putting him 30th amongst all quarterbacks. Making matters much more worse, Roethlisberger ranks behind Daniel Jones of the New York Giants, Andy Dalton of the Dallas Cowboys and Alex Smith of the Washington Football Team.

Roethlisberger did himself no favors in the Wild Card Round. Following the botched snap, the 17-year veteran threw three interceptions in the first half, two coming on deep passes and one coming on a short throw.

It’s sad to see a face of the franchise go out like this, but if the Steelers want to contend for a Super Bowl in the foreseeable future, they need to look for Roethlisberger’s successor. Luckily for them, they have a bevy of legit signal callers to choose from in the 2021 NFL Draft. Sorry Ben, but it’s time to consider retirement.
