3 players Chicago Bears should target in 2021 NFL Draft
The Bears offense could benefit from offensive line help as much as it could use an upgrade at the skill positions, and they don’t have to look too far away from Soldier Field for a prospect that could fit the bill.
Slater did not play in the 2020 college football season, having opted out to focus on his preparation for the draft. That makes it all the more startling that NFL Media’s draft guru Daniel Jeremiah ranked Slater as his top tackle in the class, ahead of Oregon’s Penei Sewell, who is seen as the consensus best offensive lineman in the draft.
There are concerns over Slater’s arm length, with some believing it is too short for him to excel at tackle in the NFL and that he should be kicked inside to guard or even center when he gets to the next level.
Counter to those assessments is the tape from Slater’s excellent performance against former Ohio State star and Defensive Rookie of the Year favorite Chase Young in 2019.
The Bears should look at that tape and be extremely encouraged at the prospect of adding Slater to the ranks of pass protectors for whoever is playing quarterback for Chicago in 2021.
