CFP National Championship Game: 5 bold predictions for Alabama vs. Ohio State
National Championship Game prediction No. 2: Mac Jones throws for 500 yards
When you look at the picture being painted by these bold predictions, there are two things that I clearly see happening. The first is that this is going to be a feature game for both starting quarterbacks as the passing attacks will be on full display. And the second is that the Ohio State secondary could be in for a long day.
The flip side of that, however, is that Alabama quarterback Mac Jones is primed for a monster outing. The third-place finisher in the Heisman Trophy race, the first-year starter for the Crimson Tide has put forth a phenomenal season with 4,036 yards, 36 touchdowns and only four interceptions on his ledger for the year.
But what truly stands out about Jones’ performance this year has been what he’s done in the biggest games of the year, specifically against the most potent offenses Bama has faced. Jones threw for north of 400 yards on four occasions this year. It’s not a coincidence that those games were against Texas A&M, Ole Miss, Georgia and Florida.
Ohio State is an opponent that slips into that same mold, boasting an offense that can at least attempt to match the Crimson Tide blow-for-blow. That means that Jones is going to be wearing his arm out on Monday night and he has the matchup before him to put up a career-defining performance. With help from Waddle, Smith and Metchie, Jones will deliver with a monstrous 500-yard performance.
