National Championship Game prediction No. 1: Alabama-Ohio State combine for 90+ points

If you needed further clarification that this matchup features two extremely dangerous offenses, the over/under total for the National Championship Game is set at 75.5, per The Action Network. That’s the highest total in the College Football Playoff era. Moreover, it’s only the second time in the era that the total for the Natty has been set higher than 70 points.

It’s worth noting that the one other time that the total was set over 70 points (Ohio State vs. Oregon), the under hit with a 42-20 final score. Having said that, this is a different era than even six years ago. And when Ohio State and Alabama take the field at Hard Rock Stadium, it’s going to be points upon points being hung on the scoreboard by both teams.

Even with the talent on defense for both teams, there’s no reason to believe that either defensive unit has the horses to consistently come up with stops. In fact, my argument would be that neither defense is in a position to be able to stop the opposing offense relatively often at all.

So while it’s a historically high over/under total, the Crimson Tide and Buckeyes are going to leave the 75.5 number well in the rearview mirror. Both teams will put up at least 40 points in a wildly entertaining shootout and the total will end up north of 90 points.

And to not cop out on making a prediction on the outcome, the Alabama Crimson Tide will get the last offensive laugh to come out on top and complete a perfect season with another National Championship to Saban’s total.
