Fans in College Station have to feel confident in what Jimbo Fisher is doing for the Texas A&M Aggies. They paid the excessive amount of money to get the head coach in hopes that he could recruit at a high level and get the Aggies into the College Football Playoff picture. After the 2020 season, it’s clear that he’s done exactly that.

The big storyline for Texas A&M will be replacing longtime starting quarterback Kellen Mond next season. They have two seemingly capable young players in Zach Calzada and Haynes King — barring any incoming transfers — which is a positive sign. But the sneaky truth is that moving on from Mond might actually raise the ceiling of the Aggies given his often erratic play.

With Mond gone, Texas A&M should be able to rely on getting their dangerous skill position players, most notably running back Isaiah Spiller and wide receiver Ainias Smith, the ball more often and go to work. That could simply make the offense a more versatile and ultimately dangerous unit than they were.

Complementing that, Fisher has brought in a top-tier group of young defensive players in recent years that should be ready to form a dominant unit on that side of the ball. It’ll be a new look for the Aggies in some ways but expect them to push the best in the SEC in the 2021 season.
