Justin Fields’ injury appears to be hindering him against Alabama.

Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields is trying to lead his Buckeyes to a national championship against Alabama despite a clearly painful hip pointer that he sustained in the Sugar Bowl against Clemson limiting him. While Fields has been able to fire the ball down the field, the Tide showed that he is clearly still in a lot of pain.

After the Buckeyes failed to convert a third down, Fields was sandwiched between two Alabama defenders, which made it difficult for him to even stand on two feet.

Justin Fields is playing through the pain against the Tide

Fields is coming off a performance against the Tigers in which he tossed six touchdowns despite James Skalski’s hit in his chest, but he might find it hard to duplicate that given the depth at every position and willingness to blitz the hobbled quarterback.

Fields’ legs help him extend plays and pick up first down when nothing is open. With his hip in serious pain, one has to wonder if he will have the same willingness to tuck it and run or heave it downfield as the game goes on.

The Buckeyes need to make some stops, as 50 percent of Fields might not be enough to take down Saban. With Trey Sermon already out for the game and Fields playing with a debilitating injury that would’ve knocked most other quarterbacks out of the game, the Buckeyes need to dig deep and defy the odds if they want to end the night in Miami as the victor.
