First, it was Trey Sermon and now it’s Wyatt Davis who suffered a brutal injury vs. Alabama in the National Championship Game.

Ohio State hasn’t had the best of luck in the first half of the CFP National Championship Game. The Buckeyes lost running back Trey Sermon on the very first drive due to a collarbone injury that required him to take a trip to a local hospital. Additionally, quarterback Justin Fields took brutal hits from Alabama’s ferocious defense. Matters only got worse for Ohio State’s offense just before halftime.

Offensive guard Wyatt Davis had to be helped off the field by team training staff after getting tripped up at the line of scrimmage, causing him to suffer an apparent left knee injury. Davis was shown entering the locker room at half time with a heavy limp.

Davis would not return to the field, but would stand on the sidelines with crutches for the second half.

Not Davis’ first knee injury

After the game, head coach Ryan Day revealed that Davis was dealing with some sort of left knee injury, saying he’s sore and “certainly in pain.”

Unfortunately, Davis hasn’t been safe from the injury bug this year. Back in December against Michigan State, the interior offensive lineman limped off the field with a knee injury. Then on New Year’s Day in the CFP Semifinal against Clemson, Davis couldn’t put any weight on his left leg due to yet another knee injury.

Ohio State’s offense struggled in the second half without Davis at the line of scrimmage. The Buckeyes could only muster to score seven points in the second half and lost 52-24 to Alabama.
