Bears fans will hate everything about this offseason coaching update
By John Buhler
Chicago Bears fans deserve so much better than this perpetual organizational nonsense.
After getting embarrassed in their NFC Wild Card game, the Chicago Bears organization is doing exactly what their tortured fanbase does not want to see.
Not only are head coach Matt Nagy and general manager Ryan Pace expected to keep their jobs heading into the 2021 NFL season, but defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano is expected to retire. It has been the Bears defense that has served as the team’s calling card, under Pagano the last two years and when Denver Broncos head coach Vic Fangio was there before him.
It just feels like the Chicago Bears are spinning in circles these days
Leave it up to the Bears to play the most boring brand of football on a Nickelodeon simulcast to draw up interest in the game of football for children. Pagano’s defense held its own vs. Drew Brees and the rest of Sean Payton’s New Orleans Saints offense. It is only fitting that Nagy’s side of the ball and the quarterback Pace traded up to get to let all of Chicagoland down once again.
With Mitchell Trubisky hitting free agency, you just know Nagy and Pace are going to make the worst decision possible here. Will they slap him with a franchise tag? Or will they give him a long-term Blake Bortles extension like the Jacksonville Jaguars did in 2018. At least Trubisky’s quarterbacking prototype won two playoff games before hitting pay dirt for a second time.
If Pagano retires in 2021, the Bears may find themselves outside of next year’s playoff picture.
