2021 NFL Mock Draft: DeVonta Smith charges up the draft board after National Championship Game
By Brad Weiss
The Washington Football Team has a lot of work to do with their roster next offseason on offense, as they still do not know what they plan to do long-term at quarterback. Sure, Alex Smith could return, or they could give the job to Tyler Heinecke, who played incredibly well in the Wild Card round against Tampa Bay.
No matter what they decide, they need help along the offensive line, and Alabama’s Alex Leatherwood may be the most NFL-ready offensive tackle in this draft class. He is going to be plug and play at the next level, and the Football Team has to find a way to get their offense to match their elite defense.
It was no big surprise what happened to the Chicago Bears in the Wild Card round, as their offense was terrible, and the New Orleans Saints were able to win quite easily. The big question surrounding this franchise this offseason is going to be what to do with Mitchell Trubisky, who showed some flashes down the stretch but was horrible against New Orleans.
If Trubisky returns, the Bears need to get him more help in the passing game, especially if Allen Robinson decides to leave in free agency. Jaylen Waddle was considered the best wideout on Alabama before his injury, which is saying something, considering his teammate, DeVonta Smith won the Heisman Trophy.
The Indianapolis Colts are another team with a question at quarterback, as Philip Rivers stated he is either coming back for one more year or retiring. If he does retire, they have to possibly move up to get a signal-caller in the draft, but if they stay put at No. 21, look for them to address their secondary.
Jaycee Horn is a tremendous talent, and on this Colts defense, he would step in and fill a major need right away. He has soft hands, is excellent in coverage, and in an AFC South that will likely welcome Trevor Lawrence this offseason, the Colts need all the help they can get in the secondary.
