Russell Wilson takes blame for Seahawks early postseason exit

During his first media session since the Wild Card Round loss to the Rams, Russell Wilson called himself out for how Seattle’s season ended. 

The 2020 campaign just didn’t pan out the way the Seattle Seahawks had hoped for. Throughout the year, the Hawks were seen as true contenders to take home the Lombardi Trophy, but their Super Bowl dreams came to a close with the Wild Card Round loss to the Rams.

Since then, offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer was fired and the morale of the team surely has been low. On Thursday, star quarterback Russell Wilson met with the media to discuss just what went wrong against Los Angeles. At the top of the list, Wilson said he simply has to play better moving forward.

“Our expectation is to be the best in the world,” Wilson said. “With ambition comes consequences. Sometimes the ball doesn’t bounce your way. We could’ve executed better. And that starts with me.”

As you can see, Wilson is not happy whatsoever with how the campaign ended. It’s easy to understand why. The Seahawks were big favorites to take down the Rams, but the offense really struggled in the defeat.

Fans had been asking to “Let Russ Cook” throughout the year, but after such a hot start, the offense struggled to stay consistent at times, which was frustrating to see.

Wilson himself was frustrated and knows that it’s on him to lead the offense. If the unit isn’t playing up to par, then it’s on the signal-caller to make the necessary changes to get the ball moving.

Come 2021, the Seahawks and Wilson will have a new offensive coordinator and Pete Carroll made it clear establishing the run game will be a top priority. At the same time, Wilson is simply too good to not let him create some magic with the pigskin in his hands. After such a disappointing 2020, you know he’ll be fired up to prove his doubters wrong next year as well.
