Bucs GM Jason Licht trolls Saints with classic line after Divisional Round win
Bucs GM Jason Licht tweeted at the Saints’ expense by flipping their famous verse right back at them following Tampa Bay’s playoff win.
All it took was two words for Tampa Bay Buccaneers GM Jason Licht to pour salt in the wounds of the New Orleans Saints after dumping them from the playoffs.
Licht lobbed his grenade via Twitter and it hit hard.
In case the reference isn’t clear, the Saints’ famous line is “Who dat?” That, of course, comes from the chant, “Who dat say dey gonna beat dem Saints?”
The question is rhetorical. Licht’s answer was literal and brutal.
The Bucs got revenge on the Saints when it mattered most
Sunday’s game was an opportunity for redemption for Tampa Bay. They had been beaten twice by the Saints in the 2020 regular season. The first meeting was a 34-23 loss on opening day, spoiling Tom Brady’s highly-anticipated debut with the team. The second was a thorough beating, 38-3, in November. Brady threw three interceptions while Drew Brees tossed four touchdowns on that day.
This time around, the script was flipped. Brees threw three interceptions and the Bucs defense created another turnover to stifle the Saints offense. Brady tossed two touchdowns and snuck in another score to put the game away.
For Licht and Tampa Bay’s management, Sunday’s result, paired with last week’s wild-card round win over Washington, proved the move to bring Brady to the Buccaneers was worth it.
Getting by the Saints was the second hurdle of the postseason. It doesn’t get any easier from here.
Next up, Tampa Bay has a date with Aaron Rodgers and the Packers in the NFC Championship Game. Unlike Brees, who appears on the verge of retirement, Rodgers is at the top of his game and is coming off arguably his most impressive season as a pro. It’ll take everything the Bucs have to top the presumptive MVP.
Then again, Tampa Bay has Tom Brady.
