CB. Pittsburgh Steelers. Cam Sutton . 2. player. 55. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis

Marshon Lattimore has proven to be a top 10 cornerback in the league thanks to his near-elite cover skills. The ideal plan will be to extend him before his contract expires in 2021. If that’s the case, they likely will be forced to cut ties with Janoris Jenkins and PJ Williams on the outside or in the slot.

If the franchise wants to go with Taysom Hill as their quarterback of the future, cornerback will be a top need for the future. Plenty of names will be available in the draft, including Clemson’s Derion Kendrick and South Carolina’s Jaycee Horn, the son of former Saints legend, Joe. However, the NFL is turning into a three-receiver set, making slot defenders more important.

If fans don’t know the name Cam Sutton, that’s ok. His role with the Steelers has been limited thanks to the success of Mike Hilton as the do-it-all option. Sutton played both inside and on the boundary, so his versatility will be well respected for teams needing corners. He also excels against the run and an open-field tackler.

CJ Gardner-Johnson will take over as the full-time safety next season. Sutton could be forced to play on the outside, but his natural role is facing opponents in the slot. The NFC South has multiple receivers that shine inside, meaning inside protection is key.

There’s no telling what Sutton’s potential is, so here’s a cheap one-year option to test out.
