The Seattle Seahawks are considering doing the unthinkable and hiring Adam Gase.

The Seattle Seahawks finally sated their fanbase’s appetite by firing offensive coordinator Brian Schottenheimer, but the move reportedly didn’t sit well with superstar quarterback Russell Wilson. With Pete Carroll and John Schneider knowing that they need to hire a coach that will help Wilson remain a superstar and craft a more balanced offensive attack, the Seahawks appear to be on the verge of making the worst hire possible by bringing on former New York Jets head coach Adam Gase.

Under the guise of “casting a wide net”, the Seahawks are reportedly looking into hiring Gase as their offensive coordinator despite the fact that he is coming off of a 2-14 season with the pitiful Jets.

Adam Gase’s offenses haven’t succeeded in several years

Gase parlayed one 2013 season with Peyton Manning into an OC job in Chicago and two head coaching jobs with the Jets and Miami Dolphins. Gase’s struggles as a coach are well-known, as he went 32-48, failed to win a playoff game, and would alienate star players in every single season he was in charge, but his poor offensive record without Manning should scare Seahawks fans.

Without Manning, Gase has never had an offense finish higher than 21st in points scored. The Jets finished in dead last in total yards during each of Gase’s two seasons coaching and calling plays, while Miami was 31st with Ryan Tannehill before firing him. Any way you slice it, Gase is a bad offensive coach and play-caller.

Putting aside the potential powder keg that could come with reuniting Gase and Jamal Adams after the All-Pro safety forced his way out of New York, Gase’s history means that Wilson could be in for a regression under his watch. Unless the Seahawks want to incur the wrath of a somewhat frustrated fan base, they need to leave Gase alone.
