2. player. 124. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. AFC West. . Kansas City Chiefs

It’s way too early to write him off, but Clyde Edwards-Helaire had a disappointing rookie season as Kansas City’s No. 1 running back (803 rushing yards, 36 catches). Behind him they won’t be bringing Le’Veon Bell back next season, and the duo of Darrel Williams and Darwin Thompson is not inspiring. Damien Williams could be brought back after opting out of this season, but he’s an average back at best.

The average back label also fits Ingram at this stage of his career. But he has a little more of a resume with three 1,000-yard seasons, and he averaged over 4.5 yards per carry in five straight seasons before this one.

The Chiefs don’t necessarily need a star running back with the talent they’ve got elsewhere, and Edwards-Helaire will have what amounts to the workhorse role next year anyway. But Ingram could be very effective in a role focused on short-yardage and goal line work, and that’s all he’d have to do as part of the offense in Kansas City.
