LSU football alums help lead Buccaneers, Tom Brady to Super Bowl 55
By John Buhler
Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers got a huge boost from two LSUÂ football alums.
As Tampa Bay Buccaneers clinch their second-ever trip to the Super Bowl, a pair of LSU football legends came up big in huge moments to help get Tom Brady back to the Raymond James Stadium.
Running back Leonard Fournette had 12 carries for 59 yards and a ridiculous 20-yard scamper to pay dirt. He also had five catches for 19 yards in the 2020 NFC Championship victory over the Green Bay Packers. He did it all with LSU shoulder pads under his jersey too. Not to be outdone, linebacker Devin White had 15 total tackles, nine solo and a momentum-changing fumble recovery to start the second half. Without them, Brady and the Buccaneers were toast.
Fournette and White were great, but Brady has to be better in Super Bowl 55
To this day, Fournette continues to wear his LSU shoulder pads under his NFL jersey. You can see the purple and gold standing out among the red, pewter and white of the Buccaneers’ color scheme. He and White were blue-chip prospects starring for the Bayou Bengals. They were top-10 picks in their respective NFL Drafts and came up massive in their biggest game to date.
For as great as Fournette and White have been at times for the Buccaneers, Tampa Bay is not winning the Super Bowl if Brady does not play better. He threw some terrible interceptions that nearly had the Packers crawl back into the game. Fortunately, nobody has more Super Bowl experience than The GOAT. He will be ready for whoever comes out of the AFC in two weeks.
LSU can be proud of the games Fournette and White gave the Buccaneers on Sunday afternoon.
