2021 NFL Mock Draft: Carolina Panthers trade up for Justin Fields
By Brad Weiss
With the No. 19 overall pick in the 2021 NFL Draft, the Washington Football Team finally get their long-term answer at quarterback. With the Dwayne Haskins Era over, and Alex Smith not a legitimate long-term option, the Football Team pulls the trigger on Alabama quarterback Mac Jones.
Jones is coming off of a special season, one in which he let the Crimson Tide to an undefeated season, a national title, and was a Heisman finalist. The Football Team has an elite defense, and some nice pieces on offense and Jones could be the final piece of the puzzle moving forward.
The question of the offseason is going to be what the Chicago Bears plan to do with quarterback Mitchell Trubisky. Long viewed as a bust, Trubisky actually played decent football in the second half of the year, leading the Bears to a playoff spot and a matchup against the New Orleans Saints.
In the playoffs, Trubisky struggled, so a new quarterback is definitely an option for this franchise this off-season. If they do decide to stay with him, look for them to use their first-round pick on their offensive line, and Alijah Vera-Tucker is one of the better interior offensive linemen in this draft class.
The Indianapolis Colts got word that Philip Rivers plans to retire from football this year, ending his one-year run as the franchise quarterback there. Rivers had a fantastic only season in Indianapolis, leading the Colts to a Wild Card berth, and nearly pulling off a victory in the playoffs.
Now the Colts have to turn their attention to the quarterback spot, but no matter who is under center next year, they need help at the wide receiver position. Jaylen Waddle from Alabama is a guy who could actually end up in the top-10 of this draft, but if he is available at No. 21 overall, he instantly upgrades the Colts at one of their bigger weaknesses on that side of the ball.
