2021 NFL Mock Draft: Carolina Panthers trade up for Justin Fields
By Brad Weiss
The Tennessee Titans once again clinched a spot in the playoffs this past season, but they did not quite have the run they did last year, losing in the Wild Card round. The offense was once again led by star running back Derrick Henry, who rushed for 2000 yards in another outstanding season.
On the defensive side of the ball, the Titans need to do something to improve their pass-rush next season, and they do so by drafting Gregory Rousseau with the No. 22 overall pick.
Rousseau is widely regarded as one of the top edge rushers in this draft class, and somebody who can come in and help a Tennessee defense that was the worst of those who clinched a playoff spot this past season.
The New York Jets hold two first-round picks in the 2021 NFL Draft, this after trading away star safety Jamal Adams to the Seattle Seahawks.
After bringing in a star wideout with the No. 4 overall pick, they add a star running back here at pick No. 23. Najee Harris from Alabama dominated the college football landscape this past year, and by drafting him, the Jets bring in two teammates with her two first-round picks.
The plan here is to build around quarterback Sam Darnold, and if he can’t get it done with these kinds of weapons, it will be time to turn the page.
The Pittsburgh Steelers looked like the team to beat for the first half of the NFL season, only to really struggle down the stretch and get eliminated in the Wild Card round. Quarterback Ben Roethlisberger struggled late in the year, and really showed his age, but the expectation is that he will come back next season.
If he does return, they have to get better up front along the offensive line, and they do so by adding Samuel Cosmi from the University of Texas with pick No. 24 overall. Big Ben can’t move like he used to, and in Cosmi, at least they bolster the talent in front of him for as long as he plans to lace up his cleats.
