Steelers free agency rumors, Will Fuller

2. Will Fuller

Fuller is going to attract a lot of interest in free agency as a wide receiver who can legitimately take the top off of opposing defenses. Pittsburgh just doesn’t have an offense that can get the most out of that sort of deep threat.

At least they can’t if Roethlisberger returns for another season as their starting quarterback. His days of showcasing elite arm strength are behind now. Now he survives by getting the ball out of his hands as quickly as possible. Fuller’s a poor fit for an offensive scheme that wants to feature short, quick passes.

Fuller’s injury history should also be a huge red flag for any team interested in his services. He’s only averaged seven games per season during his professional career. Any franchise that pays a premium for him in free agency needs to be prepared for him to miss a significant chunk of every season.

This is a class example of a player who is going to get paid like a legitimate star due to his highlight reel. There’s a chance that could work out for the team that pays Fuller. That’s not the most likely outcome though. The Steelers need to avoid the temptation to pay Fuller for the games he plays while ignoring the numerous games he misses.
