The Seattle Seahawks have announced that they won’t bring back free-agent offensive tackle Chad Wheeler following his arrest this week for domestic violence charges.

This week, shocking news arose out of Seattle with the update that Seahawks offensive tackle Chad Wheeler had been arrested on felony domestic violence charges. Per the police report, Wheeler is being accused of choking his girlfriend after she refused to bow to him.

Wheeler posted bail on Wednesday and has been released from jail. The Seahawks became aware of the incident with the tackle and have stated won’t be returning to the team next season. He’s currently slated to become a free agent.

Details of Chad Wheeler’s domestic violence arrest are frightening

Per the police report, Wheeler’s girlfriend called 911 multiple times and said she thought Wheeler was trying to kill her. Even more concerning, Wheeler allegedly choked her so hard, she lost consciousness. When she came back to and the lineman saw her, he said, “wow, you’re still alive.”

Wheeler posted $400,000 bail and the investigation is ongoing. However, the Seahawks have clearly seen enough and want nothing to do with Wheeler moving forward. A 6-foot-7, 315-pounder, Wheeler joined the Seahawks this past season after spending the first two years of his career with the New York Giants.

In 2020, Wheeler appeared in five games for Seattle, recording one fumble recovery. He was a backup for the Seahawks and it was very much up in the air whether or not he’d return to the team. Now, however, Wheeler’s concerning legal troubles have closed the door on the organization giving him another look.
