Alabama quarterback Mac Jones may miss out on the Senior Bowl after picking up an injury.

The Senior Bowl is underway and one name that’s been getting a ton of praise is Alabama quarterback Mac Jones. Coming off a National Championship victory, Jones made his way down to Mobile to increase his NFL Draft stock. After a stellar first couple of days, Jones’ status for the Senior Bowl could be in flux.

On Thursday, Jones scrambled on a red zone drill and immediately came up limp. While he didn’t participate in further drills, he did complete some passes on the sidelines.

Following practice, Jones told the media that he tweaked his left ankle and there’s “a chance” he won’t play in the Senior Bowl on Saturday, via Jim McBride of the Boston Globe.

Jones’ week in Mobile appears to be over

It truly is shame that Jones won’t be able to participate in the Senior Bowl. All of those who attended the practices have praised Jones for his accuracy and leadership abilities. While he won’t be able to play in the big game for NFL prospects, he no doubt increased his stock.

After Alabama lost the likes of Tua Tagovailoa, Henry Ruggs III and Jerry Jeudy to the NFL Draft, many wondered if the Crimson Tide would be able to contend with the remaining roster. The answer was an easy yes, and Jones absolutely shined in his first full season as starter.

This past season, Jones threw for 4,500 yards, 41 touchdowns and four interceptions on a 77.4 completion percentage. Jones was particularly lights out in the National Championship Game, as he completed 80-percent of his passes for 464 yards and five touchdowns in Alabama’s 52-24 victory over Ohio State.

Jones was initially expected to be selected in the middle-to-late first-round in the upcoming NFL Draft. With the talk of his impressive practices, he could potentially rise up draft boards like Justin Herbert and Daniel Jones did in the past two Senior Bowls. In fact, the Alabama junior said he met with scouts from the New England Patriots (per McBride), who currently hold the 15th-overall pick in the draft and are in need of a quarterback.

While his status for the Senior Bowl game is in doubt, Jones accomplished his goal of helping improve his draft stock.
