Rams lose yet another offensive coach to rival Seahawks

The Los Angeles Rams lost yet another coach as Andy Dickerson is heading to a division rival.

The Los Angeles Rams were the darlings of the NFL during the 2018 season. Sean McVay led the team to the Super Bowl and it looked like a new contender had emerged in the NFC.

Now the Rams have a quarterback controversy with Jared Goff and coaches are leaving by the minute. First it was one-hit wonder defensive coordinator Brandon Staley leaving to be the head coach of the Los Angeles Chargers. Then pass game coordinator Shane Waldron left to take the offensive coordinator job with the Seattle Seahawks.

Thursday night brought news of yet another departure as the Seahawks have poached yet another coach from McVay’s staff.

Rams losing coaches every day

Andy Dickerson will join Waldron’s offensive staff in Seattle after spending nearly a decade with the Rams as an assistant offensive line coach. This is a nice promotion for him and a chance to keep rising up through the coaching ranks.

There has to be some concern in Los Angeles about McVay losing assistants. However, everyone leaving is getting a promotion so it may just be business as usual in the NFL.

McVay has been the head coach in Los Angeles since the start of the 2017 season. He has been the playoffs three times and has never had a losing season, so the sky isn’t yet falling for the Rams. He is also only 35 years old.

McVay having coaches get hired elsewhere means he is already creating his own coaching tree at a very young age. This will now prove to be a huge test for him. Legendary coaches like Bill Belichick and Andy Reid routinely lose assistants, but are always able to restock and stay successful. If McVay’s Rams tank, it may prove he needs more time to hone his own craft.
