John Stockton and Karl Malone tower over the rest of Utah Jazz history. But Joe Ingles is about to join them in the team’s record books.

The Utah Jazz record books pretty much belong to John Stockton and Karl Malone. The pair spent 18 seasons together in Salt Lake City and one of them is the franchise career leader in games, minutes, field goals, field goal attempts, free throws, assists, rebounds and steals. There are a few modern highlights — Rudy Gobert is the team leader in career field goal percentage — but mostly it’s time capsule to the glory days of the Utah Jazz.

However, another name is likely to replace Stockton in at least one category this week. Joe Ingles is just one made 3-pointer behind Stockton on the all-time list — 844 to Stockton’s 845. Ingles is averaging 2.4 made 3-pointers per game so it’s a good bet he gets there against the Dallas Mavericks tonight.

Joe Ingles is about to become the new 3-point shooting king of the Utah Jazz

Ingles has played his entire seven-year career with the Jazz, posting career averages of 8.4 points, 3.6 assists and 3.2 rebounds per game. His career 3-point percentage (40.8) ranks fifth on the Jazz all-time list, behind Jeff Hornacek, Jonas Jerebko, Randy Foye and Richard Jefferson. Although to be fair, Ingles has over 2000 career 3-point attempts. Hornacek attempted 1025 in his time with the Jazz and none of the other three are well below 1000 attempts in a Jazz uniform, which makes Ingles’ mark a bit more impressive.

The Utah Jazz have been the hottest team in the NBA of late and Ingles’ steady versatility has been a big part of it. The Jazz are on a 10-game winning streak and have been outscoring opponents by an average of 14.9 points per 100 possessions over that stretch. They’re currently 14-4 and holding the No. 1 seed in the Western Conference.
