Matt Harvey

Before you start yelling, let’s look at the facts here. Matt Harvey’s career has been in a downward spiral since he pitched for the Mets in the 2015 World Series. He pitched his heart out that year, but it also seems he pitched his arm out. He spent two more years with the Mets, and he wasn’t very good (and very bad in the last year).

Since Harvey left the Mets, he had a 4.50 ERA for the Cincinnati Reds, a 7.09 ERA for the Los Angeles Angels, and an 11.57 ERA for the Kansas City Royals last season. It’s been a rough run to say the least for the pitcher who used to own New York. Harvey is supremely talented, but his talent can’t overcome his injuries or his mental blocks.

Here’s the catch, the Mets don’t need Harvey to be great. They have a pretty stacked rotation, especially when Noah Syndergaard returns from Tommy John Surgery. Marcus Stroman opted out of last season, so he has to shake off the rust. They also just traded Steven Matz to the Toronto Blue Jays, so there are rumors they could be targeting Trevor Bauer.

Mets fans still hold Harvey to a high accord. They look back at that World Series performance and can’t help but smile. Harvey’s career has flamed out in the most bombastic way, but he can at least put an end to his career with a somewhat happy note if he returns to the Mets.
