Chiefs place 2 on Reserve/COVID-19 list, Super Bowl status in question
By John Buhler
COVID issues are negatively affecting the Kansas City Chiefs ahead of Super Bowl 55.
The Kansas City Chiefs were already less healthy than the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for Super Bowl 55. Now they will be down presumably two players after they were placed on the Reserve/COVID-19 list.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reports the Chiefs placed center Daniel Kilgore and wide receiver Demarcus Robinson on the Reserve/COVID-19 due to close contact.
With the Super Bowl less than a week away in Tampa, Florida, this could indicate Kilgore and Robinson will be out for the big game. However, if they keep testing negative, they will be able to play.
Could the Chiefs be upset by the Buccaneers in Super Bowl 55?
Despite this being a home game for the Buccaneers, Kansas City is a “road favorite” in this Super Bowl. While Tampa Bay has the greatest quarterback of all time playing for them in Tom Brady, the best player in football today quarterbacks the Chiefs in Patrick Mahomes. Though Kansas City is favored to repeat as Super Bowl champions, the Chiefs will be down even more players now.
The Chiefs will not have left tackle Eric Fisher available in this game, as he suffered an Achilles’ injury in the AFC Championship Game victory over the Buffalo Bills. Kansas City will not have rookie linebacker Willie Gay Jr. either, as he torn his ACL during practice in the days leading up to the Super Bowl. Kansas City is immensely talented, but the Chiefs are really banged up right now.
If the Chiefs do not have Kilgore or Robinson available, it seriously hurts Kansas City’s depth.
