The Kentucky basketball team will have more time to prepare for its matchup against the ranked Missouri Wildcats.

It’s been a rough year for John Calipari and the Kentucky Wildcats. They currently sit at 5-10 overall with a .500 record in conference play.

Kentucky basketball saw its season placed on a 48-hour COVID-19 protocol pause last Friday after a “combination of positive testing, contact tracing and subsequent quarantining of individuals within the Kentucky basketball program.” This pause caused the cancellation of their matchup with No. 5 Texas, which was to be a part of the eighth annual SEC/Big 12 Challenge that still included matchups between Auburn and Baylor, Kansas and Tennessee, among others.

The Kentucky Basketball Twitter account announced that the game originally scheduled for Tuesday evening would be moved to Wednesday because of COVID-19 protocol.

The team was cleared to resume practicing earlier today.

Though health and safety remain the top priority, Kentucky basketball fans have to be happy about the extra day the Wildcats will have to prepare for the No. 18 ranked Missouri Tigers. They’ve gone several days without practice and will surely need the time to get ready. The Tigers, who started the season unranked, have been as high as No. 12 this season, taking its three losses to Tennessee, Auburn, and Mississippi State.

Kentucky has lot three out of its last four games, and face an uphill climb for any sort of postseason play, assuming it occurs. Despite a loaded recruiting class for John Calipari, the lack of a preseason schedule and practice time has had a clear impact on several high school stars’ transitions to the next level. Yet, at this point in the season, it’s time to start delivering results.

The game has been rescheduled to Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 7:00 pm and will be aired on ESPN2.
