A woman sitting courtisde at the Lakers-Hawks game was seen yelling and pointing at LeBron James.

As if the threat of coronavirus wasn’t enough reason, a woman sitting courtside at Monday night’s contest between the Los Angeles Lakers and Atlanta Hawks provided further proof of why fans being at NBA games is just plain foolish right now.

With the hometown Hawks already trailing by eight points early in the fourth quarter, one woman near the court at State Farm Arena could be seen yelling and pointing at LeBron James, who appeared to be jawing right back.

What happened to provoke such an interaction was unknown at first, but it sure didn’t do the Hawks any favors in the 107-99 loss.

What prompted this shouting match between LeBron James and this woman?

The refs had to stop the game as security considered kicking this apparent Hawks fan out for arguing with LeBron. While heckling is a natural part of the sports arena, especially for the road team having to listen to fans sitting courtside, the moment those interactions cross over from “fun and harmless heckles” into “legitimate harassing,” things can turn ugly pretty quickly.

Apparently James and the woman’s husband had been talking smack, and the woman (dubbed “Courtside Karen” by Twitter) decided the conversation wasn’t over yet. LeBron was perfectly classy talking about the incident after the game.

Fortunately the situation never escalated, and James was able to respond with 21 points, 9 assists, 7 rebounds and the final dagger of the night to lead the Lakers to victory.

Lesson learned, everyone: Don’t antagonize LeBron James if you want your team to win.

In fact, if you’re saying something so bad that it gets LeBron James‘ attention in the middle of a basketball game, maybe just don’t antagonize him at all and rethink the words coming out of your mouth?
