Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. player. OG. Clemson. Jackson Carman. 82. 59

Carman spent the majority of his career at Clemson protecting Trevor Lawrence’s blindside as the Tigers’ starting left tackle. He did an admirable job on the edge for Dabo Swinney, but his NFL future lies on the inside at guard.

Kicking to the interior of the offensive line should do wonders to mitigate Carman’s weaknesses and accentuate his strengths. He’s a massive individual who can move mountains in the run game. There just aren’t many defensive tackles who can compete with his massive 6-foot-5, 345-pound frame. He has a chance to help Miami’s run game right away.

Carman does get exposed on the edge due to his lack of quickness. That still might present some problems for him as a pass protector at the pro level, but a modest improvement in terms of technique should help him become proficient when it comes to protecting the quarterback.

Drafting a guard in Round 3 is going to seem rather boring compared to what Miami does early in the draft, but Carman has a chance to compete with Solomon Kindley for early playing time at right guard. At worst, he’ll give the Dolphins a quality No. 3 guard they can use to provide quality depth in 2021.
