3 Chiefs players who won’t get another shot at a Super Bowl
1. Eric Fisher, OT
As exciting as the AFC Championship Game win over the Buffalo Bills was, hearts broke all over Kansas City when left tackle Eric Fisher went down with his torn Achilles. As he gingerly walked off the field, you knew his injury was a serious one.
Now, Fisher will miss the Super Bowl and is expected to miss the start of the 2021 season as well. Because of this, you’ve really got to think about his future with the organization. Come next season, Fisher has a cap hit of more than $15 million. However, he has a dead cap hit of $3.18 million.
Those numbers alone will open the door for the Chiefs to potentially cut the former No. 1 overall pick. While Fisher has been an absolute stud in protecting Mahomes’ blindside, his torn Achilles couldn’t have come at a worst time for him. This kind of an injury is tricky to recover from, especially for offensive linemen who check in well north of 300 pounds.
Fisher has meant so much to this team since 2013, but it’s feeling quite likely that he may not be returning either next season. While he won’t be on the field if the Chiefs win the Super Bowl, he’ll still get his ring. After that, who knows if he’ll get another before he hangs up his cleats.
