Michigan State football: Spartans add 2-sport star Keon Coleman
By John Buhler
Keon Coleman plans to play for the Michigan State football and basketball teams.
After being committed to the Kansas Jayhawks throughout the fall, three-star wide receiver Keon Coleman will join Mel Tucker’s Michigan State football team, as well as Tom Izzo’s Michigan State basketball team.
Coleman wanted to play both football and basketball at the Division I level in college. After decommitting from Kansas in October, Coleman fielded several more offers. While it looked like he was going to join the Tulane Green Wave, he signed with the Michigan State Spartans on National Signing Day. Michigan State is one of the best schools if you plan on playing both sports.

2021 is a critical year for Tucker. This will be his second season in East Lansing after a struggle-filled first year on the job. The good news is this is Tucker’s first true recruiting class at Michigan State, as he came aboard so late in the cycle last year from Colorado. Who he and his staff are able to sign with set the tone for the type of program he is building at Michigan State.
Coleman is the first wide receiver Michigan State was able to sign this cycle. While it will be a couple of years before the Spartans are ready to compete with the best teams in the Big Ten East again, adding a premier talent like Coleman to the mix certainly makes things easier. It will be a tough uphill climb, but that is what it is going to take to get Michigan State back to being relevant.
Adding Coleman is huge for both the Spartans’ football and basketball programs.
