56. Pick Analysis. Wide receiver. 69. player. Scouting Report. Wake Forest. Sage Surratt

The Bengals need to start planning for life after A.J. Green on the outside. Even if he does re-sign with the team in the offseason, they need to add a young player who will take over his starting spot in relatively short order.

Surratt opted out of the 2020 season at Wake Forest, but his 2019 tape shows him to be a physical outside receiver who can go up and make tough catches in traffic. The Demon Deacons regularly used him as a pressure release with his ability to make plays on back shoulder fades. He’s got good size and leaping ability for the wide receiver position.

The questions about Surratt at the next level all revolve around his ability to create separation. He does not have the sort of top-end speed required to beat opposing secondaries over the top. That will limit his ability to produce big plays in the NFL.

Fortunately for the Bengals, they already have Tyler Boyd and Tee Higgins in the fold. They can afford to gamble on a wideout who specializes in keeping the chains moving. Surratt lacks star potential but he can be a quality starter for Cincinnati after Green moves on.
