8 quarterbacks not named Carson Wentz the Bears should acquire
By John Buhler
He has already had success quarterbacking another team in the division
Though he signed a multi-year contract with the Carolina Panthers last offseason, it feels like it will be a year-to-year proposition for quarterback Teddy Bridgewater in Charlotte. While he has reemerged as a starting-level player in the years since his horrifying leg injury, Bridgewater may only be a stop-gap signal-caller at this point of his career. Is this something the Bears would do?
Bridgewater quarterbacked the division rival Minnesota Vikings to the playoffs in his second season in the league in 2015. He looked to be a franchise guy in the Twin Cities before an injury derailed his career. While the arm talent is not top-tier, what Bridgewater does possess is tremendous perseverance and outstanding leadership qualities. The Bears could so use that.
Gardner Minshew once beat out Nick Foles for the Jacksonville job
Though he plays for the worst team in football, Gardner Minshew has proved he’s earned a chance to start. His rookie season with the 2019 Jacksonville Jaguars was better than anyone could have expected. He went 6-6 in 12 starts, winning six more games than current Bears backup Nick Foles did in his one season in Duval. Accuracy, a galvanizing presence and a super cool personality will make him a fan favorite whenever he ends up. Do not expect him to back up Trevor Lawrence in 2021.
