1. Corey Linsley

Many Packers fans will find the idea that Linsley isn’t worthy of a massive free agency contract to be a controversial opinion. After all, he was a deserved All-Pro selection for his work during the 2020 season.

The question here is entirely a product of how much value should be placed on the center position. While Linsley is clearly one of the best players the NFL has to offer at the position, that doesn’t mean he should be paid like an elite offensive lineman in free agency.

Instead, this is a spot where Green Bay can afford to try to save some money. The team could easily look to the draft to find a center capable of giving them 80% of Linsley’s production for a fraction of what he’s going to cost moving forward. Rodgers might not be happy about losing one of his protectors, but he will understand if the money is devoted to acquiring him a move valuable playmaker on the outside.

Make no mistake, letting Linsley go will cause the Packers to suffer a downgrade in their offensive line play. It’s just the sort of hard decision a legitimate Super Bowl contender needs to make to maximize their championship odds. Overpaying a center isn’t quality roster construction for the Packers at this time.
