Pick Analysis. Edge. Texas. player. Scouting Report. Joseph Ossai. 53. 35

The Titans’ biggest weakness on the defensive side of the ball is their lack of quality edge rushers on the outside. Harold Landry makes more than his share of big plays from his outside linebacker spot, but Tennessee has really struggled to find a quality rush partner for him on the other side of the formation.

Ossai is an ideal fit for Tennessee’s 3-4 base alignment. His best moments at Texas came when he was permitted to rush with a free conscious from a standing position. The Titans can afford to give him that kind of freedom early in his NFL career before he learns the intricacies of staying on the field during all three downs.

Mike Vrabel and his staff will be particularly attracted to the energy and work-rate Ossai plays with on a regular basis. His effort was never in question at Texas. That helped him overcome a lack of technique even when he came up against elite opposition.

Drafting Ossai wouldn’t preclude Tennessee from spending big on another edge in free agency. He can either be counted on to start right away or ideally be given more time to learn on the job as a situational edge rusher during his rookie campaign.
