Dallas Cowboys free agency 2021: Top 5 targets
1. Cowboys free-agent targets – CB Richard Sherman
Another position that the Cowboys desperately need to address this offseason is cornerback. Dallas has three key corners testing the free-agent market this season, leaving slot man Anthony Brown and rookie Trevon Diggs as the only locks to make the 2021 roster.
This spot could be addressed in the draft, where Patrick Surtain II and Caleb Farley are options with the Cowboys’ first-round pick, but a team that is looking to win now needs a more proven option in the secondary. This is where Sherman fits in nicely thanks to his familiarity with Quinn’s defense.
Sherman battled injuries for the 49ers last season but was still an effective player when he was healthy. Now 32, a short-term deal with a contender like Dallas would make sense for Sherman as he looks to maximize his chances to win another Super Bowl ring.
Adding a guy like Sherman would also give Quinn a player with extensive experience in his defense, allowing him to have a coach on the field to help the rest of the unit learn the system. This combination of positional value and need make Sherman the top target for the Cowboys this spring.
