2. Las Vegas Raiders

The Raiders may not be inclined to trade Derek Carr right now, but it still feels like a matter of time before they move on from him. He has two years left on his contract, with little or no cap consequence to trading or cutting him. Trading him could still absolutely happen, even this offseason, as long as Jon Gruden and Mike Mayock can secure an upgrade. Credit to them for trying (see Tom Brady last offseason), but also credit to them for staying patient while Carr plays just well enough.

But Carr is not the kind of quarterback who can raise the level of those around him, ala Kirk Cousins. If nothing else Wilson has shown he can overcome a mediocre situation around him. He has kept the Seahawks somewhere in the conversation as a Super Bowl contender every year, despite them not getting past the Divisional Round since 2014.

Three years into a reported 10-year contract, Gruden may not feel any pressure to win from Raiders’ owner Mark Davis right now. But the way he’s wired you can bet he wants to start winning more, and he knows Carr is not the quarterback to take the Raiders to the heights he’d like. Wilson may want to move to bigger spotlight, and he’d find that in Vegas.
