New York Giants free agency 2021: Top 5 targets
1. Kenny Golladay
Golladay might slot in just behind Godwin on most free agent rankings, but he gets a boost on this list because he’s more likely to leave his current team. The Lions look set to enter into a serious rebuild which could allow Golladay to bolt for greener pastures.
Of course, Detroit also has the power to use the franchise tag to keep him for another season. The bet here is that the Lions don’t want to tie themselves down to a wide receiver who might not really fit their timeline for future contention.
The Giants should have no such reservations about handing Golladay a long-term deal. His combination of size and speed on the outside would do wonders to unlock their offense. At the bare minimum, his ability to command safety attention on every snap would free up things for Barkley in the run game and on intermediate passes.
Golladay’s biggest benefit for New York would come with the toughness and explosion he’d add to their passing game. He can make big catches over the top but also has the physicality required to make tough catches over the middle. The Giants can’t afford to hesitate if Golladay hits the open market. He must be their top free agency target by a considerable margin.
