2021 NFL Mock Draft: Teams trading up for a franchise QB
By Brad Weiss
The Arizona Cardinals found their franchise quarterback with the No. 1 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft, as Kyler Murray has come into the NFL and despite his size, has become quite a playmaker for the Cardinals out in the desert. With their first-round pick in 2020, the Cardinals should look to continue to add more weapons around him.
This past offseason, the team added DeAndre Hopkins, giving him the legitimate WR1 he needs to continue his development. With the No. 16 overall pick, the Cardinals should select Alabama running back Najee Harris, who could be an explosive weapon out of the backfield in the passing game or running the ball.
The Las Vegas Raiders have a lot of issues on the defensive side of the ball, and recently, general manager Mike Mayock said they lack playmakers on all three levels. With the No. 17 overall pick this April, the Raiders have to address the defense, and they do so by selecting Michigan edge rusher, Kwity Paye.
Paye is considered by many as the most explosive edge rusher in this draft class, and he could actually go before Miami’s Gregory Rousseau. If he is available No. 17, even though they have issues elsewhere, the Raiders cannot pass on a player of his caliber, especially after notching 21 sacks as a team last season.
With the No. 18 overall pick, the Miami Dolphins need to do something to improve their linebacker room. With this selection, the dolphins bring in Notre Dame star Jeremiah Owusu-Koramoah, one of the more versatile defensive players in this draft class.
Owusu-Koramoah is not only an elite tackler, but he is also great coverage, which is an area Miami needs to improve. This is a team that won nine games last season, so holding two first-round picks could make them a playoff team in 2021.
