The Colts can also add to their defensive versatility next season by adding a linebacker well-suited to create pressure from the second level. McGrone is still raw in terms of being ready to make an immediate impact, but his upside makes him a terrific value in Round 4.

The unfinished nature of his game is perfectly understandable considering the fact that he’s just 20 years of age. There’s a decent possibility that he’s still growing into his 6-foot-1, 236-pound frame. Even if he doesn’t grow significantly, he still has more than enough size to hold up as a three-down linebacker at the next level.

McGrone’s collegiate tape doesn’t reveal whether or not he can become an adequate coverage linebacker, but he excels when he’s permitted the freedom to attack the line of scrimmage. He’s a rare collegiate linebacker that should be able to be an effectively blitzer during his rookie season.

The Colts should select him with the idea that he can be a pass-rushing specialist early on until he learns the intricacies of playing as an every-down guy. He’s got the potential to be an above-average starter by the time the Colts need to think about his second contract.
