Round 3

DT. Tyler Shelvin. 52. Scouting Report. Pick Analysis. LSU. 65. player

The Jaguars go back to the defensive tackle well easily here. Shelvin opted out of the 2020 season for LSU, and his numbers over the two seasons (17 games) he played aren’t impressive (1.5 sacks, 4.5 tackles for loss 33 total tackles).

But the Jaguars need a nose tackle to eat space, take on double-teams and thus help fortify their run defense. Shelvin (6-foot-3, 346 pounds) fits that role perfectly as an interior anchor, and he moves well for a man that size with some perception of upside as a pass rusher.

Opting out allowed some other defensive tackle prospects to usurp Shelvin, and he wasn’t a headliner for LSU’s national title-winning defense. But if you need a refresher on what he can do, here are some clips to digest.

NFL teams like to favor more dynamic interior defensive lineman, who post nice sack totals and generally wreck plays in the backfield via tackles for loss. But a plugger like Shelvin is a perfect fit for the Jaguars, and he looks like a value in the third round.
