Eagles free agency rumors, Matt Milano

Milano isn’t one of the premier free agents in this year’s class, but signing him would fill an obvious hole in the Eagles defense. They desperately need to add a linebacker who can hold up in coverage this offseason.

The downside to deploying Milano as a starter is that he struggles to hold up against the run due to a lack of physicality. His propensity to miss tackles is an issue that must be compensated for by the other linebackers sharing the field with him.

Still, he’s got enough speed and quickness to match-up with running backs even when they line up in the slot. That’s a rarity in the modern NFL. Philadelphia could really benefit from his coverage ability on obvious passing downs.

The Bills should try to keep him this offseason, but he’s still not going to garner a huge contract. The Eagles should check-in to see if they can pry him away with a solid, multi-year offer. Milano would also help improve their locker room with his veteran leadership.
