Tommy Togiai. player. Pick Analysis. Ohio State. 78. 13. Scouting Report. Defensive tackle

Staley will want to add some interior toughness to his defensive line this offseason. The combination of Linval Joseph and Joseph Jones was underwhelming in that respect during the 2020 campaign. That’s why the Chargers should be in the market for a space-eater like Togiai in Round 3.

The odds are stacked against him ever becoming a high-impact pass rusher, but that’s not why Los Angeles should be interested in his services. Togiai has the frame and talent to be an immediate plus as a run-stuffer at the next level. He has the size and power required to operate as either a tackle or pure nose in the NFL.

Togiai’s ideal role at the next level is to be an interior defensive lineman who helps negate the run on first and second down before giving way to a more natural pass rusher on obvious passing downs. That lack of versatility will prevent him from ever becoming a star, but he’ll be a useful piece for the defense that selects him.

The Chargers need more toughness up front and Togiai can give them that right away. They might want to take a bigger swing at this juncture of the draft, but Togiai’s high floor makes him a valuable potential pick.
