Broncos: 3 available quarterbacks better than Drew Lock

2. Kirk Cousins

The Vikings may not be actively looking to trade Cousins, but that doesn’t mean they aren’t taking calls/listening and there isn’t interest out there. The move would leave behind a good chunk of dead money for the Vikings, but an acquiring team would actually not come out too bad in terms of pure salary taken on. The question for Minnesota is who would replace Cousins if they traded him.

Prior to being hired by the Broncos, George Paton worked for the Vikings for many years as he spurned interest in GM openings around the league. He was presumably involved somewhat heavily in the decisions to sign and subsequently extend, Cousins. Broncos offensive coordinator Pat Shurmur predated Cousins on the coaching staff in Minnesota, but overall he might endorse a move to trade for him.

Cousins surely has some erratic moments where he looks like an older version of Lock. But he is a better quarterback than generally meets the eye, and the Broncos have a plethora of weapons that can keep him playing at a pretty high level
